Protip: WordPress Plugins
Is the concept of plugins really a pro tip? For a majority of users seeking to use WordPress to avoid the high cost of custom website development, plugins provide a huge value.
Here at MOJO, most of our users understand common plugins that provide rote function, such as SEO configuration or the handful of plugins WordPress includes to provide base functionality. But what few realize is that plugins run the gamut, and can be used in a myriad of creative ways to customize your site exactly how you want it.
In short, plugins are a way to add functionality to your site. WordPress plugins are created using the same open source approach that made WordPress the internet powerhouse it is today. Similar to themes, plugin developers identify a common website need, develop a plugin that satisfies that need, and in turn you, the user, are able to use plugins to add desired functionality to your site. In most cases, plugins should be off the shelf plug and play. There will typically be configurable options via the plugin’s interface and HTML/CSS customization available for users with those coding capabilities.
To give you an example, I was recently helping a user who wanted to add Google Analytics tracking to her site for the first time. She understood she needed to add a snippet of code to each page of her site, but with no website development know-how, had no idea how to go about this. She was delighted to discover there were many Google Analytics plugins available via WordPress. She chose a plugin, installed it, entered some unique identifying information from her Google Analytics account, and viola! She now has website tracking in place without directly accessing her code, or engaging the services of a website developer.
This is one example, but the list of viable plugins usages is as vast as MOJO Marketplace’s WordPress themes offerings.
Wanna add a survey question to your blog post? No problem.
Want a custom mega-menu for navigation? Yep, no coding required.
Want to add a shop and start monetizing your successful blog? Plugins gotcha covered.
Do you want each of your posts to automagically be shared to your social channels at a scheduled time of your choosing? As I’m typing this I’m not sure if that exists, but I’m willing to bet it does.
There are literally 10’s of thousands of plugins available to you via the WordPress.org, or your WP admin area. A lot of plugins are free, but offer greater enhanced functionality for a cost.
At MOJO Marketplace, we’re continually working to curate premium plugins that provide value to small business owners, entrepreneurs, and bloggers alike.
